What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning “Universal Life Energy.”  It’s actually broken down into two words: rei and ki. “Rei” means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and “Ki” means “life force energy.” Ki is just another word for Chi (as in Tai Chi), energy flow, or even holy spirit. To me those labels (or whatever you prefer to call the spark of life) are all the same power and energy, just with different names. I believe everything around us is made up of energy, including you. Reiki gently and lovingly works to balance this energy in us, helping to release and carry away the old debris that’s no longer serving us, and replace it with calm loving light and healing.

Reiki is an ancient technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The use of Reiki can greatly increase the body’s ability to deal with stress, which can help to prevent and alleviate disease and discomfort.
